Outdoor & landscape lighting

The yard after the heat breaks.

Mid-Atlantic households go outside after the humidity drops. Outdoor lighting makes the rooms usable — the path, the kitchen, the lounge, the water. Landscape lighting gives the garden a second life: a trunk, a hedge, a bed that still has a shape at 8 p.m. We design both with the stone and the planting, across Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

Path and step light

The walking surface is lit. The neighbor’s bedroom is not. Safety lives in the sight line, not in a floodlight.

Tree and garden light

A trunk, a hedge, a bed that has a job after dark. Landscape lighting reveals structure. It does not wash the whole lot.

Terrace and kitchen light

Work light at the counter. Less light on the lounge. The room you cook in and the room you sit in are not the same brightness.

Water without glare

The pool is one surface among others. Too many fixtures on the coping turn a terrace into a stage you cannot sit in.

Darkness on purpose

Some of the yard should stay dark. Darkness hides equipment, a utility pad, and a fence you do not love.

Conduit in the first drawing

Wire chased across finished stone is how lighting gets cut, then added badly. The plan belongs with the grade and the planting.

Lighting is part of landscaping and hardscaping, not a catalog added the week before a party. Read how we think about it in this climate, then call 302-234-8090 and we will walk the lot at the hour you actually use it.

What is the difference between outdoor lighting and landscape lighting?

Outdoor lighting is the rooms you use: paths, steps, the kitchen, the lounge, the water. Landscape lighting is the garden itself — trunks, hedges, beds, and the grade. We design them as one plan so the yard has hierarchy after dusk.

Can lighting be added after the patio is finished?

It can. You will usually open finished stone to hide wire, and the result is glare. Conduit and fixture locations belong in the first drawing, with the terrace and the planting.

Do you light every tree?

No. A yard where everything is lit has no rest. We choose the trunks, the path, and the rooms that earn light, and we leave the rest dark.

Where do you design lighting?

Across New Castle and Sussex Counties in Delaware, Cecil County in Maryland, and Chester and Delaware Counties in Pennsylvania. Clay, hillside, and coastal lots each ask for a different aim.
