Why design for evening instead of noon?

Mid-Atlantic summers are humid. People go outside after the heat breaks. A yard that only photographs at noon is a yard you stop using.

What is the first thing to get right for evening use?

A path you can walk without a flashlight or a spotlight in your eyes, plus light on the work of cooking. Everything else follows those two decisions.
