The 5 Most Common Pool Styles

You are here: Home / Uncategorized / The 5 Most Common Pool Styles

There are many different pool styles and design options to fit every need!

From traditional to freeform, we can do it all! Here are the top 5 most common pool styles:

#1 Rectangular

There is a reason that rectangular swimming pools are the most popular shape. Sometimes simple is the best solution. Easier to build, a rectangular pool allows a swimmer the maximum amount of room for swimming laps. In addition to this, it complements the architectural styles of most homes. By keeping the shape of your swimming pool simple, it may blend better with your property’s landscaping.

#2 Oval

Second on our list is the oval-shaped swimming pool, which has its roots in the backyards of Hollywood’s elite in the 1940s. Often likened to a nice, big bathtub, an oval-shaped swimming pool may be in-ground or above ground. Because they are generally built large, oval-shaped pools work well for larger properties. Oval pools work well with palm trees, waterfalls, and rock formations.

#3 The Kidney

With its natural curves, the kidney-shaped swimming pool isn’t likely to decrease in popularity anytime soon. Its naturalistic design fits well into a smaller yard. Although this design fits well with design elements that were popular in the 50’s and 60’s, its functional design is still relevant today. The bend in the pool serves many functions. It separates the shallow and deep ends. It also is a great place to put accent landscaping.

#4 Freeform

Naturalistic by design, a freeform swimming pool is meant to be irregular in style and shape. Rock and waterfall features are present and are meant to mimic a natural body of water. Commonly constructed of concrete, the freeform swimming pool has its roots in Hollywood, California. Materials chosen for freeform pools are designed to reflect everything that is found in nature.

#5 Lazy L-Shape Pool

As the name suggests, an L-shaped pool consists of 2 small rectangles joined at a right angle. This is a great option for people who wish to clearly define their shallow side from their deep end of the pool. Perfect for families with children, an L-shaped pool provides clearly defined boundaries between the two areas.
