Here are some tips for spring cleaning your yard & garden!
Spring is always a great time to get out of the house, take care of your yard, and make your outdoor living spaces look beautiful again. The temperatures are warm, and the plants in your garden have started showing signs of life again after a long season of snow and cold. Make sure you have a precise plan for what needs to be done to avoid confusion. Here are some tips for spring cleaning your yard and garden.
Remove All the Debris
You will have a lot of work to do if winter’s rain, snow, and wind have done damage to your trees. Start by collecting all the scattered sticks and fallen branches. If your region does not collect lawn debris often, find out if there a local drop-off location where you can take the debris. Alternatively, you can obtain a wood-chipper from local hardware and turn the debris into mulch.
Prune Away Dead and Damaged Branches
After getting rid of the fallen branches and other debris, the next thing you should do is get rid of all the branches that might have been damaged by wind, cold, and snow. You can use a handsaw for the thick branches. However, avoid using electric shears since it usually prevents a thick outer layer of growth which prohibits air and sunlight from reaching the tree’s center. Pruning will make your outdoor living spaces appear unique and beautiful.
Prepare Your Damaged Lawn for Seeding
Grass will start growing in April but the best time to test the soil pH for you to begin assembling the right plants is early spring. Remove all the damaged turf in preparation for seeding. You will also need to be careful when selecting new plants for your lawn. Check the recommended planting dates on your new purchases. However, any plant that is enough to survive the early spring cold nights can be planted.
